I can't recall a clearer example of "new character created to take on a departing character's plotlines" since the 1990's maybe. And based on how fantastic Robert Sheehan was and based on the similarities between Nathan and Rudy, the Rudy character should not have worked. But Gilgun is so great, and the direction Rudy goes in (even if it seems like it was plotted for Nathan and transferred over to a new character) is different enough that it is fun.

Love the new powers, and love that Joseph Gilgun has joined the group, and apparently has a personality very close to that of Cassidy, his eventual Preacher character, although it's too bad that he didn't get a scene with Ruth Negga. (As it was, there was a sort-of Game of Thrones meet-up with Iwan Rheon and Nathalie Emmanuel.) And I like the new powers; I'm wondering, though, if Kelly can literally only create rockets, or if she'll turn out to be a chavette Tony Stark (who was kind of a rocket scientist at first).

Oh, also, there's a sort of coda to Nathan's story, "Vegas Baby."

Ooh, Curtis has a neat power.

I've seen better treatments of "can stop time" where inertia is still in play so moving things is a lot more difficult and generates frictive heat. Might have been from Spider Robinson.

Although Rudy I and Rudy II eventually grew on me (and it was a long time coming); I’ll always prefer Nathan. I don’t know why the actor left the series unless, as the breakout star, he was deluged with offers. But it’s a shame. The other new guy, the short one, he was a waste of space.

(Oops, got ahead of myself—I’ve binged the entire series. Finn doesn’t turn up until the next season)
