Last Shift (2014)

A rookie police officer is assigned last shift at the closing of a police station. She is ordered not to leave the station under any circumstances, just in time for all hell to break loose there. Literally.

Rookie police officer Jessica Loren has been assigned the last shift at a closing police station and must wait for a hazmat crew to collect biomedical evidence. Ordered not to leave the station under any circumstances, Jessica comes to learn that it's more than just an outdated station, it's home to the ultimate embodiment of evil and his devoted bloodthirsty followers.

Boasting a 100% at Rotten Tomatoes.

Just watched this, it's pretty good for a tiny no-budget movie. I thought the director's 2009 adaptation of the Clive Barker short story Dread was pretty good, too, and it similarly relies on decent acting to carry the day. I did get slightly weary of all the "this was just a hallucination" rug pulls by the end and it seemed like they could have trimmed a good ten minutes or so of footage and come up with a leaner, tighter movie. Still, I thought this was well-done overall.

This was creepy. Both the physical effects (which were good and gross) and the psychological.

Speaking of efficient budget, I really liked the projection onto a bed sheet effect near the end.

Not a fan of the ending using dream logic, ie. bullets work when it is convenient for the dream (I have a lot of those, almost exclusively of the "don't work" kind). Or nonsequiturs/ repeats (groundhog day style only I expect locations/ routes but that's all changed).

But when it gets too weird, it just wakes me up.
