Clearly, Simon and Alisha were written out last year. But Kelly is also gone now and while the production company swore it was a "mutual decision" arrived at in advance, it seems fairly likely Lauren Socha was dropped because she was sentenced to four months in prison for a hate crime.

That situation with Socha sounds weird. On the one hand, yelling racially insulting stuff and hitting a cab driver while drunk is deeply fucked up. On the other, both sides agree he was taking her home on a route she did not recognize and refusing to stop, and that would scare a lot of single women (and people in general) to the point of wanting to try anything to get out of the cab. I'm open to the idea that it was a terrible decision made in panic, rather than everyday racism. I'd be curious to know what her co-stars say about her.

Not saying she deserves the benefit of the doubt: people ought not hurl racist epithets and punches ever. But maybe there's enough nuance that she might not be a complete write-off as a human being. I hope she took something from the experience in prison.

It doesn't seem so weird to me after finding out that it came at the end of a nine-hour drinking binge. Even with some of the shit that I pulled back in the day, that seems excessive. I hope that she got whatever help she needed.

Anyway, the episode at first seemed as if they were either making fun of the show's propensity for violence or embracing it even more wholeheartedly, which might have led me to drop it if that were the way that it was really going, but the actual denouement put paid to that. (I loved that, since Briefcase Guy died at the point that he opened the briefcase, the Misfits just watched the money blow away.)

Not sure about the new people. Jess seems a bit like Kelly with a different power, and Finn seems like he might be a bit much. (And we've already got Rudy for the bit-much department.) We'll see.

I started fast forwarding this season, too many OG characters gone. The Rudys only became tolerable near the end of the final season. Though Finn was just super annoying through out. The probation worker? Just no. Reminded me Chris Elliot in Schitt’s Creek, acting on a totally different show.

Eventually sexy barman and Abby were great additions.
