Avenue 5: Season 2
August 2, 2023 7:40 PM - Season 2 (Full Season) - Subscribe
5 months after the end of season one, we rejoin the stranded ship and her passengers on their epic journey.
So much happens this season, with the biggest arc being how to survive 8 more years on the ship. This season's shenanigans include:
- accidentally flying towards the sun
- everyone being heavily invested in the new TV show about Avenue 5 airing back on earth, to the point that the TV show captain almost is elected as the ships new "benign dictator"
- meetup with a space prison
- a cannibal stows away on the ship
- the passengers create a cuddle club
- Other President decides to destroy Avenue 5 with a missle to distract from a lithium shortage (yes this happens)
- Karen insinuates herself into Captain Clark's wedding and decides she married him
- the ship splits in half and somehow still functions!
This show is definitely not for you if you like your space shows even somewhat scientifically accurate.

Avenue 5 was not renewed for a third season.

I'm sad there won't be a third season.
This show was not at all perfect but it seemed to find the thin line between "funny and mean" and "this is just outright cruel." All the characters are either lovable assholes or well-meaning fools (or, actually, everyone is sort of both) and there's an odd undercurrent of ... not sweetness, exactly, but belief in the ultimate goodness of humanity or something.
Admittedly, though, I was mostly watching it for Hugh Laurie, who is having a lot of fun here.

I enjoyed it, and I think at one point HBO would've kept it around just to keep Ianucci on retainer, but I wasn't surprised to see it didn't survive the new regime. 2nd season is still worth a watch!
