"The portrayal of found family and the threads of love and acceptance woven into this story make it a satisfying read with a hopeful ending."Kirkus

"Filled with humor and love, this fast-paced novel will have readers immersed in Yamilet’s world, rooting for her and her loved ones all the way." -- School Library Journal

I tend to favor comics and SFF but I started listening to this recently and have been enjoying the hell out of it. I'm 38% through so far but I can't imagine this one going off the rails; it seems like really strong, confident writing. I love Yami's family and the characterization of her friends (and former friends) is good too.

The setting on the other hand--oof. I guess Catholic school is just casually oppressive, except when it's aggressively oppressive.

I finished it today. It got a little weightier than I expected but that could just be me missing clues (it's not unheard of), and (as Kirkus says) it had a hopeful ending, which was nice.

I really liked it.
