Walden Dean is a stenographer, a ghost in the courtroom, recording everything said without judgement.

Emile Hirsh plays Walden, a devoted stenographer who dutifully records not just the trials held in court of Judge Boyle (David Keith), but his own tragic experiences. Shane West and Tania Raymonde play the cops who investigate the cases that end up in Walden's courtroom.

This is a weird one. The plot is all over the damn place, but despite its flaws, which are pretty glaring, it's extremely watchable. Part of that is Emile Hirsh's ability to make Walden more than just a caricature. The other part is the film doesn't seem to accept there is a downside to violent vigilantism. So there is a bit of gleeful wish fulfillment in terms of "Wouldn't it be great if you could get some justice for the monsters in this world without becoming a monster yourself and also escape negative consequences?"
