The device of having the Maysles brothers filming a documentary about it is not quite true - they did a film about Truman at the time, but not the ball. I think it works really well here, though. One of the marketing gimmicks for the series was "the original Real Housewives" - which has a lot of truth to it, and I enjoyed how the episode both employs some of the tropes we've become accustomed to in "reality tv" but shows these characters from a different era not quite knowing how to deal with the intrusions of cameras into their previously private world.
