Encounter Party: Just a Small Town

A magic item awaits the party inside a small idyllic town where everything is a bit too perfect.
The DM's Twilight Zone/Omelas/Alice in Wonderland homage episode.
Lots of emotional ups & downs in this one.
The little kids tormenting Flik & Asher: Hilarious.
The bandits: even more hilarious. "We're bandits, we're here to rob you people!"
Olred nearly getting killed: not hilarious. I felt so bad for poor Sarah; I have the feeling that 'Red is a mash-up of some of her own real pets.
There was something else that happened after the mishap with Red that made me laugh, but I can't recall what it was -- probably the cake thing, or just the whole wackiness with Tolo becoming a giant 10 yr old.
The Knight & the Birthday bit were definitely the most surreal parts of this adventure. And now Flik has to hold it all the way back to the Foundry...

Oh, I forgot one character detail that I really loved but didn't put together until this episode:
In every combat scenario thus far, unless the party is facing something obviously demonic/evil/unnatural (the Undead in the giant corpse, or the wraith-like creature here), Dryddian never attacks first and always tries to find a non-violent solution. Here he tries to intimidate the bandits; he talked down Timothee the Octopus; I'm pretty sure he even tried to talk down the Dragonborn Priest in their conflicts way back on the Cherry Wind. It's a great touch for any paladin in general, but especially for a wandering samurai type like Dryddian. Andrew is a damn good gamer.

Asher trying to deal with the kids and then the party gleefully leaning into their 10-year-old selves was definitely fun. :)
And good point about Dryddian -- I tend to get caught up in the action but you're totally right, he doesn't jump right in swinging. Staying true to character even when things heat up!

Some good laughs:
Brian: She points to the sign that says--
Khary: Encounter Party?
Dryddian: The cake's magic. We're bringing back the cake.
Also some good character moments, as always. Kudos to Flik for fighting the temptation of that 25,000 gold. And it really got to me when Olred went down from that redirected damage!
