Stargate SG-1: Bloodlines Rewatch

It is time for Teal'c's son Rya'c to have his Prim'ta. Can Teal'c stop his son from being implanted with a Goa'uld and becoming a slave to Apophis?
When Teal'C joined the SG-1 team, he said nothing about leaving a family on his home planet, Chulak. He feared that his loyalty would be doubted otherwise. Teal'C wants to prevent his son from becoming a slave to the Goa'uld.

Was that commercial the one where he's driving in a convertable with his lady who has an accordion battle with a guy in a motorcycle sidecar?

I see that ad frequently when I watch stargate via Amazon's 24/7 stargate channel.
The Teal'C centric episodes that also feature his family are my least favorite of the series. Like Worf on TNG, he does not come off as a good partner or father. If he'd been written less authoritarian in his relationships, I think it would've given Teal'C more depth.

I'll add Dargo on Farscape, too. I suppose we can chalk this up to maybe authoritarian parents in a military based society aren't good parents. But yes, on any show, these are always my least favorite, which kind of stunk because Farscape really pivoted toward that storyline near the end.
For all my complaints about the basis of the storyline, this episode provided more insight into the Jaffa. Intentional or not, having an African American actor playing a character trying everything he can to keep his son from becoming a slave felt weightier than it might have otherwise. It was also a choice, I felt, that the servants of Apophis, directly involved in the "enslavement" ritual were played by caucasian actors.
A big series highlight was the introduction of Bra'tac. Tony Amendola is incredible in the role, knowing exactly how far to push this slightly over the top confident Jaffa master. The allegations of workplace misconduct in his last role have cast a bit of a shade over his role here, unfortunately.
The only false note was Sam's insistence that they not kill the Goa'uld when they got the chance. This isn't a sports game where you want your opponent to be at their best when you beat them. I did appreciate Daniel taking the right choice.
I don't know if this is a false note. Killing the juvenile children of your enemy is pretty bleak. Granted, I think we later learn they're basically born with a genetic memory that makes them evil from the get go? I do think it was a good display of the pain and anger that Daniel has toward the Goa'uld, as he would otherwise have been in Sam's role in any other situation.

Oh no, I hadn't heard about that, do you have any more info? My quick searching didn't turn anything up.

Oh geez. Just ignore me. I was mentally confusing him with F. Murray Abraham. Which I am now super happy about, but to make sure someone scanning this thread doesn't miss it:
TONY AMENDOLA HAS NOT HAD WORKPLACE MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS MADE AGAINST HIM. THAT'S SOMEONE ELSE.

Sam's (Amanda Tapping) hair style changes every episode, right? It really is a thing or am I imagining things?

I think it has been a bit more fluid, especially compared to the other main characters. I think it stabilizes a bit as we go forward.

I haven't pinpointed when RDA's hair went officially grey silver. Maybe S03?

I don't know, I kind of like that he's a bad father and husband? Like when would he have learned to be a good one! Their society is madly hierarchical and models itself off the Goa'uld!

I do like how they don't really sugar coat how shitty the situation was now that Teal'C left and they were outcast. It helped show the human cost, and that yeah he's trying to free his people, but leaving his nearest and dearest to take some of the hardest brunt.
