Horror Club Planning: Halloween Extras
August 17, 2014 6:43 PM - Subscribe

We moved some things around to add in the Crossover category, with the first selection One Hour Photo honoring the recently-passed Robin Williams. Not only do we need to put the rotation back on track, but we also need to come up with a plan for the extra picks for October.

Having talked things over in previous planning threads, it seems like the preferred plan for October is to celebrate Halloween by having five extra picks, one for each Friday. These extra five picks will be the kind of big name, widely seen classics Horror Club doesn't usually do. This will have the advantages of: making it more fun for casual participants to join in; and, allowing many people to join in on the threads from memory, without needing to rewatch.

In order to move things along, I've come up with eras for each of the five picks: silent, studio, drive-in, slasher, and 90s/00s. I've plugged those in with a reworked version of the rotation and this gives us the following calendar.

Upcoming Weeks:
8/30 #10 Crossover (One Hour Photo, already announced)
9/6 #11 Retro (probably Night of the Creeps)
9/13 #12 Wild Card (club member already at work on this)
9/20 #13 Recent
9/27 #14 Non-English
10/1 #15 Crossover
10/3 Halloween Extra #1 - Silent Era
10/8 #16 Retro
10/10 Halloween Extra #2 - Studio Era
10/15 #17 Wild Card (club member not yet chosen)
10/17 Halloween Extra #3 - Drive-In Era
10/22 #18 Recent
10/24 Halloween Extra #4 - 70s/80s Slasher Era
10/29 #19 Non-English
10/31 Halloween Extra #5 - 90s/Early Oughts Era

We'll continue to hash out the weekly picks (#13-19) in the announcement threads. But this thread is now open for choosing the five October special picks.

Night of the Creeps! Can't wait.

How about some Oceania-set horror, like Black Sheep or Dying Breed, for one of the recent films?

For non-English, may I cast a vote for "Calvaire"?

Is Willard a horror movie? Not that it has anything to do with anything, I was just thinking about rats this morning.

Also, if One Hour Photo is 8/30, are we missing this week? I got confused.

Yes, this list has to be ten days offset, right? One Hour Photo was the 20th, not the 30th. The 20th is a Wednesday, which makes sense, while the 30th and the 6th are Sundays...

Yowch. Yeah, the days for the regular picks are off by 10. That sucks. Sorry about that.

You know what else would be fun? House. Saw that for the first time last year. It is completely bizarre and kinda bad but I sorta liked watching it for some reason
