Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Big House, Pt. 1
September 27, 2017 8:05 AM - Season 5, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Official FOX synopsis: "Jake and Rosa assimilate to their new lives behind bars, but both are coping in very different ways. Jake bonds with his cellmate, Caleb (guest star Tim Meadows), and is forced to join a prison gang led by notorious inmate Romero (guest star Lou Diamond Phillips), in order to gain his protection. Meanwhile, in the women’s prison, Rosa puts Holt and Terry to the test by having them complete outrageous favors for her. Back in the precinct, Amy and Charles are doing all they can to exonerate their colleagues."

Barring any further FOX scheduling shenanigans (i.e. last season's soul-crushing three-month hiatus between episodes 4.12 and 4.13, and the rapid-fire burnoff of the last six episodes in hour-long blocks during May sweeps) I'm planning to have a thread up within a day or two of each episode's initial US airing. As always, you can stream the latest episodes via the Fox website or Hulu.

Oh, Caleb! I would not have guessed that I'd enjoy a child murderer-cannibal as much as I do!

Beef Baby's advice to crumble uncooked noodles on top of the ramen sounded gross, but I'm sort of curious to give it a try now.

i'm not ok with this show normalizing child-cannibalists, furthermore it's really damn effective when they use Tim Meadows.

but yeah I'm definitely crumbling uncooked noodles from now on. I used to eat dry uncooked ramen broken into chunks with the flavoring poured on top with just a spoon when I came home from high school as a snack

I listen to Ear Hustle and I just kept thinking of the episode where they talked about how various races DO NOT MIX HELL NO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES unless you are a geeky gamer playing Magic The Gathering, apparently, down to not even touching each other's food. The segregation is strong in there. So I kept thinking stuff like "no way would Jake be allowed to hang with Tim Meadows or Romero or even attempt to join Romero's gang" while watching it.

I think they did a fairly good job while uh, ignoring certain prison realities, but....I cannot say I am enjoying a cops-in-prison storyline and it gives me the squickins and I hope it ends soon. (In time for Halloween 4?)

I have been critical of things they have done with Holt's character over the last season, but him dropping "YAS QUEEN" into that conversation was epic. My partner almost spit out her drink!

Also the exchange about how tough trans people have it in prison...this show is beautifully woke sometimes.

Definitely a high note to start the season.

The post-YAS QUEEN finger snap was perfectly timed.

I went back and watched it again, just because I could. Beautiful.
