Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: Space Rabbit
October 15, 2017 5:55 AM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe

In the Season 2 premiere, Todd and Farah are on the run from the law and head to small town Bergsberg, Montana in search of Dirk. Mysteriously, Bart's search for Ken takes her to the same small town, where unexplainable events start occurring.

I didn't manage to get around to reading the Dirk Gently books in the break between seasons, but I figure that the show has so little to do with the source material at this point that a 'show only' tag is irrelevant.

Very happy the show is back and as bonkers as before.

Yep, Season One had a couple of easter-egg references to book content and that was about it. At this point we are completely off the reservation. Adams, with his characteristic loose relationships with causality and narrative continuity, might not have disapproved.

One of the joys of this show is how it throws innumerable batshit elements at you early and slowly shows that, yes, everything IS connected. I would like to see some red herrings thrown in this time just to watch the cast try to digest them, but it is a fun ride. The trick to this season will be if the writers have properly judged how many balls they can in fact keep in the air at once.

Bart wanting the smile/happy and a best friend made me laugh my ass off.

Yeah, I think the first season had to sort of be a little more careful about being as bonkers as they might have wanted because it would have felt too random. This season, with 8 episodes in a prior season to prepare the audience? Yeah, 150% bonkers right out of the gate.

I can't wait.

My other favorite things from this episode:
How does the dog work?
Rube Goldberg nature of shapeshifterthingness.
The car dropping out of the sky.

Things I am curious about:
The Infant, Male, Pollock, Francis
Use of the song Runaway

I am also curious why so much more violence is actually being shown...seems like there's more gore. The stabby pencil, bullets being shown going through heads, etc.,

I keep meaning to re-read the books to see if I find them as hard a slog now that I'm an adult as I found them when I was a young teen. I think simply knowing that all the seemingly disconnected story segments do really come together in the end ought to help.

The only element that I expect to continue to find disconcerting is the sense of Dirk being a weather worn gumshoe of long weird experience is at odds with this rather youthful seeming Dirk.

Ok, why is this not on Netflix yet? If I recall correctly season 1 was released as it came out (in Korea anyway). When I Google for info, though, I can only find SEO sites that have literally no useful information on them. Anyone know about if/when this will come to Netflix?

In the US S1 is available for streaming exclusively on hulu.

I've been watching S2 on the bbc america app or on the bbc america website. Not sure why there aren't streaming deals in place for Korea.

About the cast:
* I checked to be sure: the mom isn't the same actress as Bart.
* Tyler Labine has played obnoxious characters, like in Reaper; I like this character more.

Yeah, I was annoyed that IMDB didn't have full credits in the first episode when it aired. Not that the mom looked a _ton_ like Fiona Dourif does when she (Fiona, not mom) cleans up, but there was enough resemblance there that I wasn't sure.

Then mom cleaned up and the resemblance was lost.

wait do you mean Suzie?

I don't think Suzie and Bart look similar at all.

Since I've said this and originally flew by those comments as, "people see faces differently than I do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" it'll prob be a plot point later. lol.

Thor was a minor reference to the books.
