High Maintenance: Steve (Season Finale)

Like the first episode of the season, the city is brought together by a big event, this time the eclipse. Two couples head to the park and make new friends. The Guy says some goodbyes and attempts to make a few life changes.

That part right at the beginning where she kissed him and he closed his eyes was so good and perfect. And Jesus that ending was brutal.

I really enjoyed how many of the episode titles this season were peoples’ nicknames for him and then this one was just “Steve”. I get that it was the name of the camper van but I liked how it was kind of like saying something without actually saying it.

In the same way that the show tells us little things about him as time goes on without making the show all about him or hitting us on the head.

I liked how he was moving away from defining himself as the guy with the weed. He asked the group in the park for some of their weed and didn't offer his own until later. With Beth he wasn't going to hang if it was just about the smoking.

With the first couple dressing up in disguises, I thought they were just doing it for the eclipse. I didn't get that they needed to be incognito. And later, when they were almost spotted by the couple, I thought they hid because they didn't want to get sucked into a Facebook/politics discussion. I thought she rented the huge telephoto lens for the eclipse. Nice touch.

I love everything about this show. I paid for the second season of the web series back when it was only available on Vimeo. I got HBO via Amazon specifically for this show.

So I'm coming very late to this party. I loved this episode because it encapsulates what I love about living in nyc so much. I've had these types of experiences where suddenly a group of diverse people come together for a special moment. And even if you never see these people again, it's a memory and a bond that stays with you.
