RuPaul's Drag Race: The Bossy Rossy Show
April 21, 2018 3:52 PM - Season 10, Episode 5 - Subscribe

The queens' improvisational skills are put to the test for the new talk show, "Bossy Rossy," hosted by Ross Matthews; country music singer Shania Twain and actress Carrie Preston guest judge.

'RuPaul's Drag Race': Season 10, Episode 5: Getting to 50 (NYT Recap)
For a show that celebrates the power and glory of artifice, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is tackling some gritty realities. Last week, we faced the horrors of climate change and the incipient apocalypse. This week, we’re at war. I will attempt to be as objective as possible as I report the shoots-and-scoots of the latest episode from my embed.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Recap: Zip Zap Death Drop (Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers for Vulture)
Maybe it’s just us sartorial-masochists-cum-volume-queens, but after being bludgeoned into a numbed euphoria with 33 consecutive looks/lewks/lurks last week, our first instinct is to balk at yet another acting challenge, much less one that involves a loose definition of “improv” that no one seems to agree on. The judges, however, seem to be experts in the form. All of a sudden, Ross Matthews is Del Close and Michelle Visage is Viola Spolin and Shania Twain is Aisha Tyler in the Whose Line Is It Anyway? reboot. Thankfully, we get some standout performances with a fun premise and an exceptional runway showing.

How is Miz Cracker so damn funny all the time? Nobody is THAT good. Is she a robot?

Having a hard time getting invested in the season - I think it's possible I like all the girls too much. I need a few people to HATE!

Just popping in quick to drop two bits of gossip:

1) According To Asia, they were told the runway look was “Country and Western,” so that’s what they prepared for.

2) Asia also said that “Vanjie” really did become a catch phrase on set, you heard it MULTIPLE times a day in all kinds of contexts, and Michelle was constantly whispering it to Ru during runways and making her come completely unglued just all the time. Ru could never not crack up when Michelle pulled that stunt.

Loved Cracker all around (she killed it this week), and while I’m still side-eyeing Eureka for baiting Vixen last week, I have to say I enjoyed her runway and her full commitment to the adult baby improv.

Monet is KILLING these lip syncs but she needs to bring that urgency to the rest of her work in the show!

Cracker is my dream amalgam of Trixie and Katya, with her own spin on top. She is clearly the smartest person in the room, and knows it, but doesn't ever use that power against anyone in that room. A rare skill, and it elevates her.

Aw, poor Mayhem. In my opinion she was not the worst of the week (Blair underperformed massively and was shoddy on the runway) and I’m sad to see her go so soon after her struggle to get there.

As soon as the assignments were handed out I knew Aquaria and Eureka were going to have the best one. That is a topic that was practically specially made for that duo. Cracker was also perfect as Dr. Dill.

Asia and Miz Cracker are my favorites right now, although there's no one I really dislike. (Well, maybe Aquaria, a little bit.) It was nice getting a peek into what makes Vixen and Eureka themselves.

My only cranky bit is that Blair needs to step it up/change it up. There have been a LOT of the same style/silhouette from her, with nothing really exciting about it. Admittedly, Sasha wore virtually the same silhouette for all of season nine, but she was weird and wonderful enough to show versatility otherwise. If Trinity Taylor could turn up a gag-worthy club kid look, Blair can experiment a little more!

I'm actually starting to warm up to Aquaria a bit, despite myself. It's almost an Alyssa Edwards/Miss Fame thing where you get this mixture of glamour and doofiness that is endearing.

...sure you don’t mean Miz Cracker?

(SORRY sorry couldn’t resist I’m as bad as Michelle)

I hate to say it, but same. She's starting to say extremely funny things in her talking heads.
