We catch up with last year's bakers, who have come a long way since their time in the tent.

Why not be a completist, hey? The four Masterclass shows, revisiting the challenges of 2014, technically comprise their own series, but for some reason the BBC reckons this recap/where-are-they-now of 2013's bakers should be counted as Series 5 Episode 11, so here it is!

2014 was the first year I watched Bake Off—I was a Sewing Bee fan, in search of similar fare—so these contestants are all new to me, save for the two or three who I saw on Another Slice this year. I'm surprised by how many seem to be on trajectories directly related to their appearance on the show. So many people with books and TV shows in development! Is it like this every year? Did the contestants from the first few series enjoy the same level of fame and success? Where are they now?

Also: harsh rules for the 2013 technical challenges! They weren't allowed to speak to one another? That wasn't the case this year, was it? I don't remember that being a thing. Or business with the ingredients being mysteriously hidden under a cloth, come to that.
