Charles and the squad rush to save Jake and Amy's wedding day.

- Charles was a little over the top for me with his usual creepiness and about killing himself, but it was mostly balanced by Teddy being even a bigger creep. And then it was really sweet with his reaction at the end of the wedding.
- "BOMB! THERE'S A BOMB" was so sudden and hilarious I forgot to laugh until the break.
- I guess bringing back Teddy makes for a nice foil to Charles, someone who's as obsessed with Amy as Charles is with Jake, and it made the futility of trying to save the original wedding much more impactful that Teddy was sincere when he finally declared the wedding was off because of a very real bomb.
- I had definitely forgotten about Melipnos. So great to see Fred Armisen doing that role again. From the pilot to this almost finale, it was so appropriate.
- I hope Cheddar isn't too sick, that furry pig. His real name is Stuart.
- That cake was amazeballs. I want it for no special occasion.
- Alicia, played by Gina Rodriguez, seems to be Rosa's new love interest, and with some schedule shuffling for Jane The Virgin and a shorter B99 season for season 6, it's possible she'll have a bigger role in the show. I'm excited, I mean, look at those two.
- I loved how Amy was so taken when Holt quoted her, like that's literally one of her dreams come true right there.
- The shredded paper carpet of the wedding was apparently Amy's favorite form.
- Melissa Fumero tried on the dress during the episode where she chased down the perp in one, but wanted to save it for this episode.
- WHAT A GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER
- "Your butt is the bomb, and there will be no survivors."

Yay! Gina & Stephanie had said they were up for being romantically paired onscreen back in 2017, and I'm glad that it worked out!

Jake's tearing up at her butt joke made me *so happy* for them.

I haven't watched last night's ep yet (but I am not bothered by spoilers so no worries). Anyway I did read this from Linda Holmes which I appreciated:

Pronoiac, I didn't read your link and I thought Gina referred to Chelsea Peretti because I mixed up which one is her real name, so I was so confused between your comment and numaner's comment and was just like, damn, Rosa is getting all the love. Plus Gina Linetti is married with a kid, so whaaaaaat?

Then I read the tweet and it made SO much more sense!

It seems like this is the second episode in a really short time where someone spouts of an unlikely theory that turns out to be exactly true (e.g. the niece finding the blueprints). It's kind of related to the Cassandra Truth, but in both cases, the audience was in the dark when the theory is suggested. Did that happen last week on B99, was it another show like the Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Archer, or did I just dream it? It's been bugging me all day.

It's not quite the same -- she didn't randomly say an unlikely theory -- but the last episode did have an annoying(ly self-involved and longwinded) character who did happen to have accurate information (because she had witnessed the crime). Amy and/or Rosa spent much of the episode shushing her, and shushed her again out of instinct, but when the old lady pressed on, they backtracked pretty quickly and immediately got the information. Could the italicized commonalities be causing the deja vu?

Being in the midst of very stressed-out wedding planning while both of us are in very stressful moments in our jobs made this an incredibly cathartic and beautiful episode.

Also, dammit, Holt, you monster!

I wrote a big comment and then it got eaten. Shoot.

Some highlights:
- I love that the way they've handled wedding build up isn't the predictable (and all too real) woman-plans-everything-man-complains-about-the-boring-details angle. Instead, Amy has done tons of prep (BINDERS!) but her job ends up being more important and Jake steps up to a) handle things, even boring details and b) support her during a stressful time.
- Charles was a little over the top for me with his usual creepiness and about killing himself
Yeah, this angle has definitely run its course for me. He has a kid! He's married (?) or something! The one-way bromance isn't fun.
- Captain Holt was perfect as always "Your honeymoon vacation request has been changed from pending to approved."
- Love to see Rosa when she's not being a 100% boss. Her slo-mo jawdrop moment seeing Alicia was great.
- I wish the joke about the shreds being Amy's favorite form had made the show but at least it made twitter.
- The dress that Gina was going to wear to the wedding! "I thought you would wear, like, a gray pantsuit. I would never wear a gray pantsuit to your wedding."

I found Gina's support of Holt through the episode to be incredibly touching. She covered it well, but she gave him exactly the backing he needed to get through the day, then explained for him at the bar when it was clear he wasn't able to but needed to.

Don't worry, Numaner! If you're familiar with the partially overheard conversation trope, you'll know it will end up ok in the end ^_^

I loved Amy's vows, and "Cheddar, you furry pig" with the little lick of the lips. Stuart is a good boy.

And Terry making matchmaker for Rosa was adorable x2.

YEP, my favorite thing about the show is how much Gina and Holt like each other. (“...seems like people are pairing off for adventures, and we have the best rapport.”)

I'm very curious whether they're going to have Holt win the Commissioner race or not - and if so, whether they decide to tackle the issue of NYPD corruption. They've touched on it before, of course, but it was always in some other precinct. A show about an NYPD commissioner who makes it his mission to end corruption could be amazing, even as a sitcom.

Oh hey, also: do you suppose Holt's rival for the Commissioner spot is an alternate universe version of THIS John Kelly?

Another thing to mention: how much it surprisingly meant to me with Holt saying he loved Amy and Jake, and the two of them requesting permission to return the sentiment.

Similar to how Sorkin said that The West Wing is really a platonic love story about Jed and Leo, this feels like the backbone of the series, to me.

By why wouldn't Nikolaj be the ring bearer?

On the Holt and Gina thing - was it last episode where Holt asked Gina "What size envelopes do you use when you send yourself fan mail?" I loved that. I didn't know I was waiting for someone to call out Gina like that. And of course she doesn't even care.

Their relationship is great.

why wouldn't Nikolaj be the ring bearer?
Seriously!

why wouldn't Nikolaj be the ring bearer?

probably because the child actor is too old now :P

Would anyone notice if they subbed in a totally different kid since we haven't seen him in so long? :P

They really haven't done a great job integrating Charles' family into the show, to the point where it almost seems like they wish they'd never given him one. It's a bummer. His storyline of moving on from Rosa was really well-handled, and I was expecting a similar level of growth after he got a KID, but we haven't really seen that.

That's another thing: Mary Lynn Rajskub is a great comedic talent and I can't imagine extremely difficult to schedule around. Why haven't we seen more of her?

Seriously. I cried.

After his first outburst I just started muting whenever he was on because it's just Too Much for me anymore. The rest of the episode more than made up for it anyway.
