This book made me more interested in the religion(s) of Tamora Pierce’s world. I’m a big-time religion nerd anyway, and this glimpse of the Divine Realms was fascinating!!! I personally want a whole book on the Black God.

A book on the Black God would be great! Though, uh, I kind of think that there's existing literature I could consult for the Dream King.

This one's fun, with a new place to explore and with Daine getting to see her mom (yay!) and watch her dad hunt. What's it like to be reborn instantly? I guess the whole "beings created in the Divine Realms can't be denied self-determination" thing stops the more enterprising and/or hungry gods from, say, factory-farming the chicken gods.

As for Daine and Numair's romance, um. I guess it's basically a guardian-ward romance, but with more fighting monsters than one usually sees in a Regency, and also a lot more accidentally seeing each other naked. For, like, three years. ... At least all Numair's previous girlfriends were actual adult women who didn't seem to hate him or warn Daine away? That's something.
