Elementary: Nobody Lives Forever

Holmes' former sobriety sponsor, Alfredo, asks for help with an illegal endeavor in order to save his brother. Also, Holmes and Watson investigate the poisoning of a biology professor who was working on a secret genetics project prior to being killed.
I was puttering while watching this episode, so maybe I missed it, but what was the point of bringing up Mycroft? It felt weirdly abrupt, like they tried to raise tension but then broke it before it had a chance to develop.
Speaking of weirdly abrupt, I guess my petition to get rid of the serial killer guy worked, and we'll never hear about him again. Phew.

I mean, I guess they made the connection because of the parallel to Alfredo's relationship with his brother, but I agree that it seemed to come out of nowhere. More to the point, it felt kind of weird to bring Mycroft up like that when we haven't heard from him in several seasons, only to immediately kill him off screen.
