I thought the fake Hallmark movie segment on MBMBAM was hilarious, so I was super excited to see this on Sawbones!

This was a delight.

I *need* the McElroys to make my fictional TV content and this proves it. Their short-lived TV show on Seeso was not enough.

Audio experiments and weird radio are always worth a try. And, this particular one does me no harm at all and clearly makes a lot of people happy. I'm therefore glad it exists.

But. . . I sure don't get it. A less smarmy and more spontaneous version of A Prairie Home Companion is better than the original. But, only just.

Well it's more making fun of this particular genre of movies than trying to be A Prairie Home Companion.

You kind of have to know the two genres they're making fun of. The first is the Hallmark Channel style Christmas romance movie. The second is fake medical treatments they recount on Sawbones. So, it's a mashup of the too-on-the-nose plots of those Christmas movies, but instead of just being a (supposedly) charming Christmas based town, the townspeople think Christmas things are medical treatments. It also has its roots in the 'That's a Christmas to Me' segment on MBMBaM where Justin reads the synopsis of three Hallmark type Christmas movies except one of them is made up by Sydney and the other brothers have to guess which is the fake one. I'll admit I was a bit thrown by the inclusion of the medical stuff and actually would have enjoyed a straight satire of the genre.

Thrown by the inclusion of medical stuff in a show about medicine hosted by a doctor?

I know it doesn't make any sense and I should have expected it, but I was really digging the Hallmark movie satire and when the badly set broken arm thing happened it was shocking to me.

Oh I see, I can see how that would be upsetting. I only listen to this show occasionally because of the gross & upsetting stuff they talk about so I guess I had unconsciously girded my loins for upsetting stuff haha.

I'm just happy to get a dose of that Slappe.

I'm still ready for another season of Things I Bought At Sheetz, is all I'm saying.

I was pretty excited when I recognized his voice as well.
