It was a strong episode in terms of character development, but beyond that I find it hard to make comments about the show. Everything is in order, so maybe that's the problem: nothing really to complain about or praise.

Good episode, but what I miss from season one is the core characters acting as part of a larger team, with new characters coming in. Now it's the main 5 'good' guys just going over and over the same dynamics and being increasingly ineffectual. Why are they so hellbent on taking down the Inner Circle? Because they're giving mutants a 'bad name'? Kind of late for that.

The show is definitely struggling with universe overload. We're constantly jumping around to so many different sub-groups, we don't get to care about any of them. And those stories are always so centered on the character we know, we barely get to know anyone else.

And they know they're doing a bad job of it. That's why they're relying so much on flashbacks to justify actions that aren't quite earned otherwise.

I did really like the moment of Erg painting an M on Kate at the end. I know it might be unearned, but I'm coming around to sympathizing with Erg.

I was surprised with the ending moment of Marcos killing Max, but I like that kind of pacing, where every other episode something crazy enough happens to really propel the story, while the slower episodes let us see them reflect on the craziness and gives us more character development.

Why are they so hellbent on taking down the Inner Circle? Because they're giving mutants a 'bad name'? Kind of late for that.

I think it's more of maintaining some kind of legacy for the X-Men, as John keeps saying. And stopping the Inner Circle from killing more people is always a plus. But I don't disagree with you, it feels futile at this point and I kinda wanna see the extremists win out and then next season we get the main cast just struggling to survive a war. It might be morbid TV but it'd be entertaining.
