Six Feet Under: Terror Starts at Home
October 12, 2019 9:12 PM - Season 4, Episode 6 - Subscribe
A man is shot during a home invasion. David carries on with work, and with his birthday celebration, after his carjacking, while Keith takes time away from work to be with him. Tensions grow between Ruth and George as she learns more about him. Nate takes a job working with dogs, and Claire takes drugs. Vanessa learns about Sophia, if not her precise role in Rico's life. Brenda and Joe make plans, and then Brenda sabotages them.
The obituary from this episode:

I've been burgled twice, and even though I wasn't home on either occasion, I tend to have a lot of home invasion-themed nightmares. The first time I saw this episode I recoiled from the shooting as though I'd been shot myself.
If Ruth only knew it, George has much worse secrets tucked away than a neti pot.
Claire always turns into such a marshmallow when she's high.
Rico uses his wife's depression against her -- again! -- to justify his not telling her about the stripper he's seeing on the side. What an asshole. Happily, he is totally getting his comeuppance soon.
Brenda feels uneasy or trapped or suffocated by her plans with Joe, and does she do anything constructive about it, like reassess her relationship with Joe and either slow things down or break up with him? No, she cheats on him with her ex. Classic self-destructive Brenda move.

Hey maybe a rewatch tag would be good for these? This is my first time watching the series and even though I’m not going to be super anal about hint about future events to come, the tag would probably be good for others that are coming at this for the first time.

The show always does dinner parties at the Fishers very well - and I particularly like this David's birthday in this one. There is David's post traumatic horror, to be sure - but also Ruth's horror at George and his neti pot. There is Rico's double life rapidly coming apart and there is Claire turning up up very stoned, with red arms and an undressed art-school friend.
As a prestige show based in LA, it seems Six Feet Under, was able to draw on an amazing range of locally based acting talent. James Cromwell, playing George, has a career that stretches from The Rockford Files in 1974 up to his current part in Succession, for example. (The list of actors who appeared in one episode only is amazing for its length and prestige). But credit also to the writers who clearly know their stuff when depicting the world of experimenting art school students, dog care centres, academic parties for Geologists and such like.
