The Expanse: New Terra   Show Only
December 13, 2019 10:39 AM - Season 4, Episode 1 - Subscribe

The Expanse Season 4 is finally here on Amazon Prime. The first three seasons were on SYFY, but despite it being one of if not the best science fiction series around, it got canceled. Fortunately, Amazon picked it up and all 10 episodes are now available. I've put the story description for the season and first episode below the fold just in case some people are still not quite caught up with the events of Season 3.

Season description: "With the Ring Gates now open to thousands of new planets, a blood-soaked gold rush begins, igniting new conflicts between Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Meanwhile, on one unexplored planet, the Rocinante crew gets caught in a violent clash between an Earth mining corporation and desperate Belter settlers as deadly, new threats from the protomolecule emerge."

Episode description: "The crew of the Roci investigates a strange protomolecule ruin on an alien planet. Bobbie copes with civilian life on Mars. Drummer and Ashford battle with piracy in the Belt."

A good season premiere, and they're taking things a little slow, which is fine for me. This show tends to ramp up really quick towards end of seasons. I'm still haven't wrapped my head around what the deal is with ghost-Miller, but I'm looking forward to having that all cleared up, along with everything else.

Does the general populace know about the Builders being killed off?

Heck, we show-only folks barely know about it. I seriously doubt the belter settlers or the earth populace has a clue beyond “I wonder what happened to whoever built all this stuff.”

My internet connection is behaving badly this weekend, so I'm putting off watching the rest of the season for the time being. If anyone else wants to keep posting for the rest of the season, by all means please do.

I only asked about what the general populace knows because it seems dumb to hide that info. Much like Alex and Naomi are doing, hiding her weakness from Holden.

Otherwise, a solid start and was great to catch up with where everyone is. Was surprised to see what's her name call Amos, he makes some of the most interesting connections.

But yeah, Chrisjen, you can't hold the coming explosion back for long, people want that fresh air and with 1300 new worlds, there's plenty of space.

Not crazy about the Investigator subplot, but it's what we got, so strap in!

• I miss Naomi’s hair and the old uniforms.
• Good thing there was that hole there to park the Roci in.
• Wonder what series of unlikely circumstances will bring Bobbie and Claire back to the crew.
• Nice new paint job though.
• Drummer and Ashford bffs.

Oh yeah and Amos asking what Avasarala was wearing.

On watching the episode for a second time: Drummer's in an OPA uniform! I can't believe I missed that on my first watch. Time really has moved on.

Don't know the books at all, so am excited to see what happens next.

Of all the members of the Rocinante crew, I think it makes the most sense. Amos is least likely to judge her for her violent past, and most likely to appreciate her recently gained technical acumen.

I had trouble following what happened at the beginning. Some Belter ships tried to go through the ring, some were shot down and some made it through?

And do we think that the weird cloud of flying ninja stars is what messed up the science ship?

I loved loved loved that Amos is into Avasarala's clothes. I also thought his advice to Claire was a pretty good summary of mindfulness. Something like: Breathe in. Breathe out. Eat, shit, sleep, and take whatever they give you while expecting nothing in return.

Nice that they installed a machine on the Rocinante so Naomi can do some Sexy Weightlifting.

The way they showed Naomi's first visit to a planet was pretty amazing. I loved when she looked at the sky and then fell over.

Really glad that Captain Black Eye Makeup and Old Pirate are back, love them.

And do we think that the weird cloud of flying ninja stars is what messed up the science ship? At this point it's not clear, but it's certainly a possibility.
