Jenn (Kiersey Clemons) has washed ashore on a small tropical island. It doesn't take her long to realize she is completely alone. She must spend her days not only surviving the elements, but must also fend off the malevolent force that comes out each night.

This sci-fi film, directed by J.D. Dillard and produced by Jason Blum, debuted at Sundance and has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94%. It is currently available on Netflix in the US and via various digital rental options.

It's a serviceable creature feature. The lead was compelling but the other actors really laid on the "we don't listen to WoC" so hard it made the way the title tied in way too literal for me.

The creature design made me assume this is the evil brother of The Shape of Water creature.

The survival parts are the most interesting. The creature part seemed like an extended setup for Jenn getting ignored... but with the payoff of the people who didn't listen dying horrible deaths in pretty short order.

Watchable, but middling. I'm going to remember JD Dillard though and will check out their next feature.

I watched this because it autoplayed and I thought the lead was cute. I basically got what I deserved. It's not a very good movie, but I loved the moment when the creature caught the flare. The problem is that the story is so thin that the movie feels too long even at a mere hour-thirty. This might have been a terrific hour in some horror anthology (or a better 45 minutes).
