Fringe: Brown Betty   Rewatch

While 'Uncle' Walter deals with some upsetting news, he tells Ella a fairy tale that includes musical performances by Olivia and Broyles. And a hybrid between 'Chronic Supernova' and 'Afghani Kush.' Fedoras and trenchcoats abound.

Ah, that musical episode. That was a thing for a year or two, for shows to attempt one.

And I think Ella gets written out in some later episode... or it's something strange and complicated like that. (It's been a couple of years since my rewatch.)

By random chance I watched this episode during a very difficult and emotionally fragile part of my life and Olivia singing "For once in my life" not only makes me choke me choke up but makes me remember why I was choked up at the time and then it starts a whole endless crying cycle.

Which is to say I liked this episode but I can't really watch it ever again.

I had to watch this one in the background, and rewind several times because I kept seeing bits that looked like they might be relevant beyond "Peter's gone and everyone's sad and we'll sing about it!" but wound up just being confused at how much of this plot is fantasy storytelling and how much Walter's infusing what he knows of what's really going on.

For instance, the involvement of the Observers seems to be well beyond anything they've been called upon for in the past, and I feel like Peter's heart being the key is a big setup for the Machine story.

Am I just crazy? Too much Brown Betty?
(God, I'd love to have access to some weed that gets the motor going like Walter's Stage 1 fit of organization.)

I just loved seeing Olivia with her hair like that, and the outfits! Swoon. I think I may have mentioned I have a little crush on Agent Dunham?
