The Lone Gunmen: Pilot Rewatch
August 16, 2020 9:19 AM - Season 1, Episode 1 - Subscribe
The Lone Gunmen investigate the suspicious death of Byers' father, a top tier government agent, and discover a top secret plan for a false flag operation to crash a plane into the World Trade Center.
It's been so long since I saw this, and 2001 so long ago that I can't remember if the tech is going to make me nostalgic or cringe. Cringe it is.
2001 was the transition between the Pentium (80586) III and Pentium 4. There would never end up being an 80886 (Octium) architecture (nor a Core i8).
TLG feels like an outlet for all the silliness that probably got cut from TXF.
Byer's background (airforce dad) feels right. I like how they write him as a super competent operator and I loved that they managed to cast George Coe!
They're not going to do women characters at all well, are they?
Zuleikha Robinson's first major role, and she goes on to a very solid career, notably Gaia in HBO's 'Rome.'

I have blocked everything about this show out of my mind except the official website filled with Easter eggs that promised more fun than we ever got from the series.
Glad to hear that Zuleikha Robinson survived this.

porpoise, I think you'll need the Rewatch tag on this one for the Previous/Next Episode links to kick in. The mods can probably add that if you want.
I remember being super excited about this spin-off but giving up on it after, I dunno, three episodes? in large part because I began to realize that the writing combined with the leads' charisma was going to continue to feel like a B-story. Shame, too, because what a great series concept.

I watched the whole show and don't intend to rewatch. I was a huge fan of the Lone Gunmen as bit players on X-Files but even I wasn't confident that they could carry their own series. It's really so amazing and fitting that the only reason anyone other than the most ridiculous XF stans remember it today is that the pilot managed to accidentally predict 9/11.

Likewise on all counts. The notion of a spinoff focussed on them seemed even in advance like a SNL skit that somehow came to life. They played the same role in the X-Files ecosystem that the zany neighbour does in a sitcom. If you think Seinfeld ended on a disappointing note, be glad you don’t live in a universe where its time slot was taken over the following year by It’s Kramer!
