October 14, 2020 1:31 AM - Season 3 (Full Season) - Subscribe

Against all odds, Kipo and the gang ended an old enemy's reign of terror. Now they're on a mission to fight a fierce anti-Mute evildoer: Dr. Emilia.

Mom! HMUFA! Dubstep Bees! K-Pop Narwhals! Fun-gus cameo! Prahm!

Aside from the cartoonish (hah) evil of Emilia, I think this was a great season and ending.

That was lovely.

I enjoyed all three sets of 10 half-hours, and was impressed with the evolution of most of the secondary characters (and the redemption arcs of Scarlamagne/Hugo the mandrill, Jamack the frog and Mulholland the tartigrade). The frequent flashbacks were only slightly disorienting and the big reveals (like what really happened to Kipo's mom - a season 2 spoiler) were only slightly telegraphed. Not perfect but way above average.

Ok but: Dr. Emilia was gonna die, right? There's no food or drink in there. And the little fungus dude probably wouldn't take care of her (weren't there skeletons in there the first time?)

Preeeetty gruesome. Especially when the next scene is "Five years later." Uh, guess you died horribly Dr. E, too bad.

I like that we got her backstory but also that she was not redeemed. Some people can't be.

(Also, she fucking offed her brother??? The fuh?)

Overall some good stuff about how forgiveness/reconciliation takes effort and you can't force it.

It's more realistic but still sad that there was no re-muting agent that let them bring back the "cured" mutes. (My count: Yumyun, Brad, one of the snakes, one of the hummingbirds, one of the wolves).

Very much liked that the town was getting rebuilt with gyms and a the goats getting their own cheese-fortune shop and so on.

Yes, there was kind of a grim element in Emilia's fate, but the story also showed that some people will keep hurting others no matter how many times you offer them redemption. You aren't obligated to keep forgiving such a person. In contrast, I thought the way they handled Hugo's story was wonderful. And very happy to see Benson + Troy still together.

I was so happy to see that Emilia didn't get a redemption arc. I would have chucked my laptop out the window if she had.

I was also relieved that she made herself a mute during the climax. I had thought she was making a new cure, sans Kipo's DNA. I was so scared during the fireworks scene when Kipo was acting as a mega umbrella.

Giving us another one-off set of mutes to be friends with (the Treasure Squirrels) that late in the run seemed oddly timed, especially since they didn't play into the denouement at all.

I am SO HAPPY to have a longer version of the 30-second opening music.

Loved Wolf's arc at the end. Were they implying couplehood for Wolf and Kipo?

an interview with the creators where they talked about having planned for 30 episodes, partly because Netflix said so.

K-Pop Narwhals

I looooove the music on this show! And most (if not all) the songs are on Spotify!
That's a user playlist that has all the official stuff plus songs used in the show that are not included on the soundtracks.

Yeah I thought that was odd too, it was like a filler episode just to give a situation where Kipo literally takes the hit for Hugo and Wolf, and I guess let Benson have bonding time with Lio and Song?

So, two filler episodes in a row, then. "Requiem for a Dave" was definitely filler.

nah, I saw that as the origin story for Dave and Benson, which we never got in previous seasons.

I thought this was one tier below the really Top Shelf animated shows like Steven Universe and Avatar/Korra, but it's up there just behind She-Ra, Adventure Time, and the Dragon Prince. It had some amazing visuals, especially in the first season, and lots of wonder and mystery. As it developed, not all of that payed off in ways that seemed as interesting. Like the Mod Frogs were such a bizzare and kooky idea at the start, but then they just became sort of normal? I dunno. I did tear up at the end, and the main cast was great.
