Save Yourselves! (2020)

A young Brooklyn couple heads to an upstate cabin to unplug from their phones and reconnect with each other. Blissfully unaware of their surroundings, they are left to their own devices as the planet falls under attack.
The ways of the Hulu algorithm are mysterious and strange. I found this film entirely by chance (clicked a "more like this" under a different movie, though this is the sort of movie that fits well with my viewing history) and watched it a few months ago. I sort of forgot about it since, which again I blame on the Great Hulu Hiding Effect. It's... definitely worth a watch. It's indie-weird, which made me think about how surprisingly NOT weird most alien movies are. It's also alarmingly rooted in reality. Whenever I watched it -- some point in the last nine months -- the chaotic/comedic societal breakdown felt very plausible. (It might be a less creepy watch now that people are getting vaccinated.)

Omg this was the craziest and greatest movie I’ve seen in forever! The feels! I loved it.

Loved this movie! Watched it just after bingeing the last season of Search Party, so it was kind of funny to see John Reynolds doing the same exact thing, but he and Sunita Mani had a great, lived in chemistry. The premise was great, and the poofs were a fun concept. I’m not totally sold on the ending in which the solution to their relationship issues was to raise an orphan on an alien world, but it was a great ride to get there.

I totally spaced putting this up after I saw it, so thanks for posting. I've been reccing this hard to friends for a while now, but I don't think anyone's taken me up on it. (BTW, in the US, you can watch this on Hulu and Kanopy as well, if your library service allows access to Kanopy.)
