In the aftermath of the Petrification Ceremony, the portal to Earth is gone, stranding Luz in the Boiling Isles and removing Eda's primary revenue stream. Luz feels guilty about Eda losing her powers, so she sets sail in search of a lucrative bounty to help the Owl House.

Luz feels guilty about Eda and Lilith's predicament, so decides to earn some money by joining an ocean crew to hunt for a Selkidomus, alongside King. King discovers that the ship belongs to the Emperor's Coven and is captured by the Golden Guard. A thief steals the monetary reward for capturing the Selkidomus. Luz gives chase, discovering that Eda is the thief, but also knocking the money into the sea. The Golden Guard reveals himself, demanding that the two kill the Selkidomus, or else he will harm King. Eda convinces Luz to stop blaming herself for recent events, explaining how her life is better with Luz in it. After learning the Selkidomus has a child, they fake killing the creature and the Golden Guard leaves. The Selkidomus rewards the two with valuable selkigris. Meanwhile, Lilith wants to make things up to Eda by creating a scrying potion for her. She acquires one of the ingredients, fire bee honey, with Hooty's help, and the two become friends. When Luz, Eda, and King return, Lilith completes the potion, allowing them to spy into Emperor Belos' castle. Unbeknownst to them, Belos is aware of being spied on as he continues rebuilding the portal.

A little hearbreaking detail shows when Luz hits send on her message and we see a backlog of failed messages behind the recording.

I'm still trying to decide if the Golden Guard could be someone we know from school. Lilith mentions that he is a prodigy upstart so he's probably near the same age as Luz's friend group. The only older teens we really know, though, are Amity's older siblings, and I don't see the twins separating like that. You don't put a character like that behind a mask without some kind of impending reveal. Maybe we have yet to meet him unmasked.

I can't see this episode yet, but I wanted to thank you for reminding me of this show's existence, because I double checked and Season 1 is now on a streaming service I have. Looking forward to catching up!
