I think this was my first in the 'chaebol soap opera' genre, and I really enjoyed it. So much eye candy - the fashion, the architecture of the family compound, the meals, and the pretty pretty cast. But I don't think the show would have kept me watching for all 16 episodes if it was just 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' vicariousness, ultimately the show created compelling characters and intrigues.
I got a real kick out of Park Won Sook as mother-in-law Yang Soon Hye -- it made me appreciate how meta her role in 'Dear My Friends' must have been if this is her usual type of role. In that one, she was playing an actress who was typecast as a crazy hair-pulling/drink-throwing matriarch. And here she was again, playing it to the hilt -- slapping maids, eating like a glutton and yelling at people with her mouth full. And yet, as brattish/childish as she behaves through most of the episodes, she manages to be a sympathetic character.
