I'm enjoying the new/final season, but there is a little weirdness in watching a cop show today, even with the show's attempts to deal with the murder of George Floyd, etc.

Same Saxon Kane. I appreciate how they looked some stuff right in the face, but the show is also kind of as a whole pulling a Peralta "but I'm one of the good ones" at us maybe? I will be pretty disappointed if this one episode is all this season has to say about racist police brutality in America.

But Rosa with feelings? Here for it.

I watched episode 1 & 2 on broadcast night, but haven't gotten around to 3 & 4 yet and probably won't catch up tomorrow when 5 & 6 join the pile.

It seems like they did the best they could...but I kinda wish they'd gone the full reboot/retcon and turned it into a Post Office workplace comedy like the internet suggested.

As Rosa has quit to fight police brutality, and she's still a cast member, I doubt it.

The Rookie has had a similar turn over the last season, it feels a bit awkward, but better than ignoring things.

One nice thing is that Rosa off the force seems more realistic to me than cop Rosa.

LaToya Ferguson reviews this plus episode two at the AV Club since together they served as a doubleheader season premiere; I therefore added it as a Recap link for the next episode.

A few moments of brilliance from ep. 1:

"The Vulcan Scissor"

"SCULLY'S Sex Book!"

"RaymondAmy"

"He kept blathering on about someone named... Wario?"

No spoilers, but having watched the first 4 eps, it seems like they are putting police-oriented stuff (crime-fighting etc) on the backburner, focusing more on reform-type stories or personal stories.
