Audible (2021)

Football player Amaree McKenstry-Hall and his Maryland School for the Deaf teammates attempt to defend their winning streak while coming to terms with the tragic loss of a close friend.
I felt like this 40-minute documentary at least partially escaped the pitfalls of a classic underdog sports story through its bold sound and visual design, which leads the film to create a mood as much as it does tell a story. I flipped to it because the subject matter, the Maryland School of the Deaf, is geographically close to home, and I'm glad I did. Audible is an Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Short this year.
