The boys take a long weekend getaway to the Russian River.
It's about 75 miles from SF north to Guerneville* (the epicenter of the gay Russian River and the host to the annual Lazy Bear Weekend, which is what I figured they were stumbling on in the beach scene), so about an hour and half in good traffic. I was kind of surprised Kevin would go all the way up there too, but given the exposition about how much they've been doing it at work, he must be really into the power play of it. Patrick is really setting himself up for an ugly comedown though; for someone so naive, he's really taking the bad-idea bull by the horns.

My bf and I watched it again last night to give it a second shot, and while I really liked the misdirection with the guy in the the Giants hat (why must they withhold Richie from us? he's the only one who talks any sense most of the time), I've gotta say that they're really doubling down on making Patrick sound like a simpleton. That boy needs to evolve.

Sigh, those redwoods. I haven't been anyplace like that in a long time. Now I want a vacation in a forest cabin.
And hey - season one opened with Patrick almost having a handjob in Golden Gate Park, and deciding he's just not one of those people who has sex in the park. Apparently now he's the type who gets fucked in a redwood forest, though!
So how long does it take, exactly, to drive from the city to the Russian River area? I've never been but I would guess at least an hour or two? That's one helluva booty call to Kevin.

This morning I found myself thinking about Patrick and his "us three besties against the world" outlook that seemed featured in this. And I wonder if that's maybe gonna get tested a bit this season.
