Teenage crime reporters Sadie and McKayla are hot on the trail of a crazed serial killer. After capturing the maniac and holding him hostage, they soon realize that the best way to boost their social media stardom is to commit the murders themselves.

This is arch, meta, sarcastic, snotty and mean-spirited. The protagonists are the slashers and they're not just killers, they're Heathers-level bitchy. It's really gonna rub some people the wrong way.

But if you can ride with its snarky influencer satire, it's funny as fuck.

Ideally, this should be in a double feature with Heathers.

I watched this a couple/ few years ago on the strength of Brianna Hildebrand.

Definitely recall it being a critique/ satire of the genre, and it was great fun. And the 'protagonists'' crazy eyes.

Brianna Hildebrand and Alexandra Shipp? (Like Hildebrand, Shipp was part of Fox's X-Men franchise pre-Disney.) And Jack Quaid, of both The Boys and Star Trek: Lower Decks? I gotta see this.

Not to mention Kevin Durand, who will always in my heart be Fett from the Strain. Gotta rewatch that it was fantastically hilarious.

You might want to add Jack Quaid and Kevin Durand in the tags, please.

Huh--Durand was also in the FoX-verse as The Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Fun Easter eggs with the names:
-Sadie Cunningham (Sean Cunningham directed the original Friday the 13th)
-McKayla Hooper (Tobe Hooper, director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
-Lowell Orson Lehmann (not only are his initials literally "LOL" but Michael Lehmann directed Heathers)

I loved how MK said "Lowell" near the end when she was trying to control him.
