The Wire: Back Burners

"Conscience do cost." - Butchie
The detail switches targets, and McNulty discovers that there are some consequences for going behind Daniel's back. Hamsterdam continues to evolve, with both intended and unintended effects. Omar does Bunk a favour. Stringer has some problems on the home front. Bunny has to work to protect the secret of Hamsterdam. Marlo works his plan to lay low, encouraging the Barksdale crews to set up shop before bringing some heat. Cutty begins searching for a new life, while Kima's changes.
I found the title interesting, as it catches that several of the events are from the character's Back Burners - areas of their lives that they've ignored, neglected, or thought finished:
-Stringer and the murder of D'Angelo;
-Kima and her domestic life;
-McNulty and his relationship to his commander and the squad;
-Herc, for whom Avon is an old memory from his back burner provides the information to really get the detail hopping.
And then you have things like Shamrock and Bernard, who are putting operational security on the back burner. Bunny has to convince three members of the detail to put what they've seen aside...and in his quest for stats and saving the decent people of his district, he's put the junkies and dealers and crews on the back burner.

Well, yeah, that too. But with the Wire I'm always going for the subtext and subtle references.
