Mega Time Squad (2018)

When John steals money from a Chinese antiques shop, he also takes a bracelet that is actually a temporal dislocator.

Fleeing for his life from the local crime lord, Sheldon, he triggers the device and goes minutes back in time.Using the device, John makes multiple Johns to join together to form the Mega Time Squad and defeat Sheldon as well as hopefully keep the money and get the girl.

Currently boasting a 78% ranking at Rotten Tomatoes. It's a fun watch, but didn't completely live up to it's promise. Still if you're looking for a violent yet funny time travel/heist/coming of age story, you'll enjoy this. Definitely worth a watch.

I watched this when it first came out and ended up recommending it to a bunch of people. It does kind-of fall apart towards the end but the way the film uses the premise is enjoyable enough to smooth over any misgivings. And, having grown up in small town NZ, the characters ring very true.

Incidentally, if you like Mega Time Squad you might be interested in an even more obscure and much lower budget NZ sci-fi farce: This Giant Papier-Mâché Boulder Is Actually Really Heavy.
