A successful whaling captain estranged from his family is compelled to take the seat of his ancestral home in rural Maine (ofc, Stephen King). His foreign-found wife perishes during the voyage, leaving him with three children.
There was a damned good reason Charles Boone left to seek a life on the seas.
The mini is much more serious than the post might reflect.

This was a valiant effort by Brody and Hampshire but the pacing seemed interminable!

Yeah, not worth spending the time to discover the "ending." Hampshire is great, Brody brought his A game, but. Not much to work with.

The trailer gave me hope for a powerful horror in the vein of The VVitch. I really wish that is what we had gotten.

I am catching up on it now and at E4 I feel like there's been 30 minutes of story across ~4 hours of Adrien Brody staring mournfully at things, the Schitt's Creek lady stoically setting her jaw, and townsfolk being assholes.

I'm only halfway through, got some initial "Lost-ey" vibes but I'm confidant that it's not the case.
Its visceral (visually, too). I think I can see what the pacing is trying to do, but it can feel uneven when it lingers on characters that might not be so relevant.
This ticks a whole bunch of boxes for me. Emily Hampshire being the one doing the 1880's Lovecraft-esque costume horror is a big bonus.
