Dastan can no longer stand the constant nagging of his highly pregnant wife and decides to run away for at least one day with his friends. The men go fishing, which would have gone smoothly, if not for a series of unforeseen events. A Russian/Kazakh horror comedy by Yernar Nurgaliev.

88% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Currently streaming in the US on FreeVee, Tubi, and Plex. Also available for digital rental on Amazon. JustWatch listing.

The characters are lunkheaded louts and there is a lot of low grade sexism (stock characters like shrew wife, homely old maid, inflatable sex dolls used for laughs, that kind of thing.) The comedy is kind of crass and hokey.

But the cinematography is shockingly good, and there is some Raimi/Coens-esque energy to the direction, even if the screenplay is nowhere near that level. It has a goofy energy that keeps it moving.

This isn't really a horror comedy, so much as an odd comedy with a psycho character and a lot of gore.

I just saw this on Shudder and thought it was great fun. The way it was shot and its sense of humor reminded me of Why Don't You Just Die!
