When Hamilton High's Prom Queen of 1957, Mary Lou Maloney is killed by her jilted boyfriend, she comes back for revenge 30 years later. Bill Nordham is now the principal of Hamilton High and his son is about to attend the prom with Vicki Carpenter. However, she is possessed by Mary Lou Maloney after opening a trunk in the school's basement. Now Bill must face the horror he left behind in 1957.
Not really a sequel to the Jamie Lee Curtis starring film Prom Night... the company that acquired this film, originally titled The Haunting of Hamilton High owned the rights to Prom Night and noticed both films were set at high schools with the same name. They retitled this to make it an easier film to market.
56% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently streaming in the US on Shudder, Hoopla, Peacock, FreeVee, Pluto TV, Tubi, FilmRise, Plex, and Crackle. JustWatch listing.

Oh, this movie is a hoot! I love that all the teenagers at the prom are clearly NOT teenagers.
Very much recommend the Dirty Little Horror podcast episode about this film!

I love this movie so much more than the original. Maybe it is because of its Canadianess (shot at the West Edmonton Mall!) or its familiarity from being so ubiquitous on Canadian pay tv channels in the late 80s or maybe it is just that it seems to get that it is a sequel to a derivative horror undeserving of a franchise? In anycase recommended by me even if you haven't seen the forgettable first one.

I just saw Prom Night III at the Music Box of Horrors fest in Chicago and it rocked so hard. I wish it was streaming because I'd post it right away. A positively bonkers and delightful return for Mary Lou.
