While Kitty tries to find a runaway teen, Sherlock and Joan work a case in which the murder of a brilliant bioengineer looks to be at the hands of a drug cartel. Also, Joan makes a major life decision but worries it will impact Sherlock negatively, not knowing that Sherlock has big news of his own.

I enjoyed this episode, and I'm glad to see there are at least 5 more episodes in this season, so the Sherlock/Watson split won't be an end of the season cliffhanger, like Sherlock leaving for London.

The A plot was an interesting case, though the girlfriend gift made the connection to the killer pretty clear. The B plot was clearly a way for Kitty to shine on her own and display how strong she has become in the face of sexual abuse cases, to bolster her place as Sherlock's full partner.

The new baddie is an interesting, disturbing addition. Added conflict for Kitty, highly probable face-to-face confrontation, following her comments on putting the past behind.

I thought this was a good solid episode, both the A & B plots, and a nice balance of humor & seriousness & fairly equal time for all the main characters. Last week's seemed like it was kind of treading water, and I was wondering when (or if) the show was really going to dive into a longer-arc story.

So now it looks like Kitty's addition to the show will really have a payoff.
