Ticket to Paradise (2022)
October 22, 2022 9:13 PM - Subscribe

A divorced couple (Julia Roberts, George Clooney) teams up and travels to Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago.

Just an unbelievably lazy film. I hope Clooney and Roberts enjoyed their trip to Australia, because, whew. Even the costume designers appear to have given up midway (wtf were those jumpsuits on Roberts?).

Stay home and stream Trouble in Paradise instead.

Oh, that’s sad to hear, praemunire. Roberts and Clooney are good comic actors and, being good friends IRL, seem to have a comfortable way with each other. I only saw this advertised this week, and thought “oh, cool! This should be good, with those two playing off each other.” Oh well.

There's nothing those two could have done to salvage this script. It feels like it was filmed from the first draft.

Okay, hear me out. Yes, the script was incredibly lazy. So lazy that the daughter is 25 and "graduating college" but after the Bali trip will be going to work as a lawyer. This is mentioned multiple times. Do they live in an alternate universe where "law school" does not exist? Unclear. BUT. It doesn't really matter. Did Clooney and Roberts sign up for good material? NO. They signed on to josh around and obviously no one on set was going to say no to either one of them at any point. It hardly matters. I found it fun and entertaining, even when it was stupid and basic. I think I could watch Clooney and Roberts read the phone book and have a good time. It's like watching 50 pounds of charm in a 5 pound bag.

If you're of the generation this is targeted to, you will probably enjoy this despite the stupid exoticism and white people nonsense and the pointless plot. Because Julia Roberts and George Clooney look as good as (or better than) ever, and goddammit if they aren't just so cute together.
