Interview with the Vampire: Like Angels Put in Hell by God Books Included
November 6, 2022 6:55 PM - Season 1, Episode 6 - Subscribe
Our divided vampire family attempts to mend itself physically and emotionally.
Healing under Claudia ‘s care, Louis is relentlessly wooed by a remorseful Lestat until the younger vampire finally takes him back. Under questioning, Lestat reveals his traumatic origins, agreeing to kill his singer paramour as the cost of his return, but turning her instead. Claudia attempts to escape her dysfunctional family, only to be forcefully returned as the only component that will keep them together.
While war brews in Europe, Claudia proposes to Louis that they kill their maker. In our time, exhausted by a medical treatment, Daniel sleeps, and in his dreams remembers the first time he met Louis… and an ageless Rashid.

Favorite moments:
- Louis and Claudia’s argument over whether Emily Dickinson was a vampire.
- Lestat’s explosive anger after Claudia refuses to complete a game she has already won.
- The brief callback to the movie’s superb opening shot over the San Francisco Ferry Building on its way to the Flatiron, where the original interview was held. Here, tellingly, our destination is a gay bar, where Daniel meets Louis and Rashid before the interview.
I loved this whole series! So terrific!

Reading and re-reading the books, I was always very "ok it's Lestat, but let's get back to Marius, Louis, Daniel, Armand, Pandora, etc etc etc....." And especially in this episode, I finally understood the tractor beam that is Lestat.
However they're lighting all of the vampire's eyes: perfection.
I spent way too long trying to figure out what Rashid says in Latin over the speaker when Louis asks if he's awake and mentions that Daniel's drugs put him to sleep.
I think I landed on:
"turbidus labōs ad infinitum" which snarkily translates to "this is a lot of work" or "this whole thing is just ongoing bullshit" --- if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

I forgot this was only 7 episodes and felt genuinely betrayed when the "next week on the season finale" hit at the end.
What they're doing with this material is really just so perfect, I don't know what else to say about it. Something that I'm just realizing is that this series plays with time in the way that a vampire might experience it. We get something like half a decade of ... just nothing ... here, and everyone is roughly the same on the other side of it. Think of how the years, decades, centuries would pile up in a vampire's life, how absolutely dull it could become. No wonder Magnus walked into the fire.

Wait - I'm only first watched and mildly confused.
Why is Daniel surprised to be remembering his first meeting with Rashid ?
Were we - the viewer - supposed to think Rashid was Human all this time?
Because he never takes off his gloves, he never goes into the shafts of sunlight that we see, and Louis seems to trust him implicitly. Which all screams Vampire to me ?
In the 1970's (?) flashback, Daniel points out something along the lines of 'Paying attention is what a good journalist does' and .. has he not been paying attention all this time?
