Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Election Subversion
November 7, 2022 12:36 AM - Season 9, Episode 28 - Subscribe
This week.... Heidi Klum dresses as a worm in an awesome costume. Lula defeats Bolsonaro (YAY). Elon Musk takes over Twitter, which knowledgable people describe as "a nightmare built on sticks that might fall apart at any time," and he just fired half of the employees. Main story: Election subversion, trying to change the outcome of elections after they take place, a tactic that looks like it is coming to the United States in a couple of days, due to misinformation spread by conservative media. On Youtube. (33 minutes) Ends with a nice clip of Nick Offerman.
Large numbers of people find comfort in the idea that they didn't actual loose but rather the other side cheated, or had an unfair advantage, or got lucky. For them, anything is better than simply loosing on the merits. True for sports, true for games, true for politics.
I haven't seen this episode, doubt I ever will. I just can't stomach yet another deep dive into how truly fucked up our democracy is about to become.

It is weird seeing a clean-shaven Nick Offerman

It is a good thing that Nick Offerman has generally progressive views and/or is fundamentally uninterested in being a politician, because he could lead me to the gates of Hell and ask me gently if I wouldn't mind storming them, and I absolutely would.

I get Bannon, Trump, and other power hungry fucktards trying to sell this shit. Of course they're going to do that, there are a lot of people who will do anything for power and/or money. What I don't get is how anyone who isn't personally benefiting fails to see the stupidity in the claims of election fraud. Apparently you can show people perfectly normal things while playing some music ripped from Unsolved Mysteries and get people to believe something sinister is happening.
