Escape Room (2019)

Six strangers are invited to participate in a mysterious escape room for 10,000 dollars.

Six people receive a strange puzzle cube (never a good sign) inviting them to an escape room with a 10k going to the winner. The players are Zoey, a physics student; Jason, a wealthy daytrader; Ben, a stockboy; Mike, a truck driver; Amanda, an Iraq War veteran; and Danny, an escape room enthusiast. The room is hosted by the Minos Corporation.

Featuring horror alums Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) and Tyler Labine (Reaper/Tucker and Dale vs Evil) this movie was directed by Adam Robitel. Robitel also wrote and directed The Taking of Deborah Logan.

I found this on a list of thanksgiving horror films and have no idea how this is related to Thanksgiving. This movie is in the mold of Cube-a bunch of strangers selected for reasons that will be slowly revealed have to solve a series of puzzles to progress and hopefully escape.

About the worst sin this movie commits is wasting the talent of Tyler Labine. I didn't even recognize him for a while because he was just such a place marker of a character. I'm guessing in trying to create an ensemble film, he was toned down to the point of non-existence. Woll is fun in this although I kept hoping her baby vamp teeth would come out.

It's interesting Robitel also did the Taking of Deborah Logan, which if you haven't seen, I highly recommend. I'm fairly over found footage, but that movie is worth watching. This movie is slickly done, great production value, good cast, but it's just ok. Not terrible, but not great either.
