acrasis, are you referring to the original Enchanted (which IS delightful!) or this sequel, Disenchanted? I won’t be watching this until tomorrow, but I’m hoping against hope it captures at least some of the original magic.

I must be referring to the original; I guess I'll be watching here to see if the sequel is good!

As always villains get the best costuming. I love Gielle's evil stepmother peacock dress.

I'm going through Serious Life Shit at the moment (honestly, 2022 can suck it) and I thought this movie would be exactly what I needed.
It was... partially what I needed. Didn't quite fit the bill. Certainly not a keeper, like Enchanted - I doubt I'd watch it again.
Amy Adams was having a whale of a time as the evil stepmother! I find her incredibly watchable. I enjoyed every scene with Evil!Giselle. "My hair is so high and my dress is so low!" Lol. I enjoyed that the romance took a back seat to the relationships between the main female characters.
I found the songs... disappointing. 'Badder', the duet between Maya Rudolph and Amy Adams, felt like it came from a different movie, it was so much fun, so clever and genuinely catchy. But the others? Awful! Idina Menzel's voice is so amazing, making her sing a boring song like 'Love Power' pretty much amounts to a crime in my book.
I am a big Disney animation buff, and I wished there were more animated sequences - the one towards the tail end of the movie was moderately enjoyable - and more shout outs to vintage Disney, as in Enchanted. Enchanted felt like a love-letter to traditional Disney, but this one didn't, so much. Oh, yeah, I mean I caught the lyrical shout outs (it was hard not to) and there were one or two really lovely touches like the blink and you'll miss it animated overhead shot of a young woman showing her book to some sheep (who obviously start eating it)... But Enchanted had a boatload more Easter eggs like the restaurant called Bella Notte and the cameos by Paige O' Hara and Jodi Benson. I loved catching those. Maybe I missed some in Disenchanted? Who knows.

Man, the throwback 2-D animation sequences in this were rough. If this is something even Disney can’t pull off convincingly, I guess it truly is a dead art.
