Bob, Eureka, Shangela, and their drag daughters face increasing prejudice in small-town America. Silly bigots don't realize: if you try to strike down drag queens, they only become more fierce.

Two THOUSAND attendees for the show in St. George?! I wept buckets this episode.

The clothes really do deserve to be on the cover of Vogue - the costume design (and custom fitting, on absurdly tight timelines!) has been phe-nom-e-nal.

NJ episode made me cry - no surprise.

I’m a boring middle aged cis straight white late but this show makes me feel like there’s a hole in my life.

Have been enjoying it. But there was one point where Bob The Drag Queen says that when the episode wraps, he’s out of there. And that’s the thing - the people who live in these towns, they may or may not have an option to leave. They have to live with it every day. As Harvey Milk said in his Hope Speech (my emphasis added in the second paragraph.)
'Somewhere in Des Moines or San Antonio there is a young gay person who all of a sudden realizes that he or she is gay; knows that if their parents find out they will be tossed out of the house, their classmates will taunt the child, and the Anita Bryant's and John Briggs' are doing their part on TV.

And that child has several options: staying in the closet, and suicide. And then one day that child might open the paper that says "Homosexual elected in San Francisco" and there are two new options: the option is to go to California, or stay in San Antonio and fight. Two days after I was elected I got a phone call and the voice was quite young. It was from Altoona, Pennsylvania. And the person said "Thanks".

I’ve been watching the episodes out of sequence and just watched the St. George, Utah one. Apparently after the drag show in the town square in June, the city manager was fired in July and then the city paid him $625,000 to forestall a lawsuit. Then in November there was another contentious city council meeting (echoing the one in the episode) with both sides registering their complaints (there’s some real dumb homo- and transphobia in the article I learned this from.)
