Nomads (1986)

A French anthropologist specializing in nomadic groups moves to Los Angeles and starts following a group of sinister street punks.

This is a difficult film to summarized because it is so disjointed-mirroring the experience of the two protagonists-and as a result it's difficult to say what actually happened plot wise. I will say the movie features a deliciously punk Mary Woronov and Pierce Brosnan sporting an absolutely painful French accent as he portrays an anthropologist who stumbles upon some punks who are far more of a menace than he realizes.

The movie features not just Mary Woronov, but also Lesley-Anne Down, Adam Ant, Frances Bay, and Nina Foch. Directed and written by John McTiernan (Die Hard and Predator).

I have a weird fondness for this one, but I have to admit it's a fairly bizarre choice to cast Pierce Brosnan and then make him speak in an obviously fake French accent for the whole movie.

Ha! I remember this one. Haven't seen it for decades, but I enjoyed the low-key approach. And the novelty of Adam Ant.

Saw it as an 18-year-old and was completely terrified. It was different than other horror movies. I sort of don't want to rewatch it for fear those good memories of being scared will be spoiled.
