The Nobodies (2017)

In 1993, a amateur filmmaker, Warren Werner, shoots his first feature length film, a horror film titled Pumpkin. After a local screening and an intense local backlash, Werner and his girlfriend commit suicide. A group of filmmakers attempt to make a documentary about their deaths, but never completed it. The Nobodies is Werner's film Pumpkin spliced with the documentary footage.

The Nobodies is a mockumentary that rather than playing for laughs is about what a labor of love even the most low budget mess of a movie is.

If you love bad movies, this is a love letter about all the work and passion that goes into making them. And honestly "Pumpkin" the fake SOV movie within a movie is pretty entertaining! My favorite is Harold Gilliland as Detective Ace Bruno who is kinda the Edith Massey of this movie.

Thank you - I'd missed this. It sounds like fun. I have seen a lot of mediocre labor-of-love movies from amateurs at local film festivals, and I will say that even the worst of them is better than any film I've ever made, so props to them.

Where did you watch this? I tried to look it up on JustWatch and all they had was a TV series "Nobodies", also from 2017.

It's unfortunately only available on dvd. I purchased it on amazon for 8 bucks.

OK so it's actually available through Troma's streaming service but aside from that, disc only.

I did not know Troma had a streaming service and my world is slightly better now for knowing this.

I have not seen this, but the description reminds me of an actual documentary called American Movie about an actual low-budget horror movie called Coven (not supposed to rhyme with "oven").
