The Mindy Project: No More Mr. Noishe Guy
February 5, 2015 8:20 AM - Season 3, Episode 14 - Subscribe

Change is in the air in the office of Shulman & Associates. Mindy has the chance to practice in California and bring Danny along, while Danny is trying to set down roots for family life in New York. Peter and Jeremy have to make evaluations of their own, as Laura is moving to Texas. In the (possible) words of Michelle Kwan, "Life doesn't move in small steps, it moves in huge leaps."

Peter leaves (the show), just when he and Mindy confirm that they're besties. Oh, and Peter tells us MINDY IS PREGNANT! What a twist!

I agree with the A.V. Club review that on the surface, a summary of the episode can sound like A Very Special Episode, but this was one of the funnier episodes for me. As usual, a lot of that was one-liners that didn't move the plot along, but this episode was packed with them.

This episode rankled me because of how mad Danny got at Mindy for just thinking about moving while she expressed no anger at him for buying a house without telling her.

I think she was just too worried about whether she was going to tell him about Gurglar's offer to start the practice. It wouldn't be the first time she was too self-absorbed to notice something huge going on.

I think it was him getting that mad at her for something out of her control that bothered me the most. His typical reaction of only moving the relationship forward when he gets scared that she will leave him is wearing thin on me.

Double egg, double bacon, double cheese.

We like the same breakfast sandwiches!

To carry on the earlier conversation, tv would be unwatchable if all the characters were sensitive to each other's feelings. We need conflict to provide tension, and we need tension to create humor. So what we end up with is a vapid Mindy and an aggressive to make up for his weakness Danny.

What I am saying is that if Danny were thoughtful enough to discuss his intentions and Mindy expressed her desires, there would be no show.

More succinctly, if tv characters communicated like real human beings tv would be terrible.

If TV characters communicated like real human beings should, TV would be terrible. AskMe alone provides proof that actual people often fuck it up.

I always feel a bit sad when the shows I like go down the "main female character is pregnant" route, but I do have some faith that this show will deal with it in an unusual way. My guess is that Dr. Gurglar, having quit his job, moves to New York to join Mindy's practice instead of Mindy and Danny moving to San Francisco. I think it could really work, but man, I'm going to miss Peter, which is definitely not something I would have expected when they first introduced him.

If you follow TMP on Facebook, the person who posts there posted an article that warned "spoliers!" but preceded it with a quotation from Kaling that "pregnant Mindy is the funniest Mindy yet." You should have seen the outrage in the comments. Whoops.

I too wish Danny had acknowledged that the house thing was also a big thing to surprise one's partner with.

I definitely agree with Jeremy that dim sum is a topic worth physically fighting over.
