I will always have a spot in my heart for this film.. I believe it was released in proximity to "Armageddon" and it's such a human and hopeful little film, lovely. In hindsight a perfectly Canadian entry to the end-of-world genre

(spoiler) movie's finale, a nice moment with Pete Seeger's "Guantanamera"

edit to add: the manic runner you see throughout the film, and in that final scene linked above, is (--Aunt Hetty--King!) Jackie Burroughs. legend

I remember liking this movie a lot when it came out. It feels like the late 90s/early 2000s were a good time for Canadian cinema in that they were making good films that you could actually see in the theatre. Now if it isn't a big-budget film it's probably only going to be on streaming, which is a fine way to watch a film but it makes the watching less of an event. I see that it's available on Prime Video so maybe I'll watch it again over the long weekend.

I was reading the tags and thought "this wasn't a David Cronenberg film" but then remembered that he acted as the boss.

I just thought this would be nice to compare and contrast to Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012). Are there enough films in this genre to have an End of the World FanFare Club?

depending on how broadly or narrowly you define the genre: yes and yes

Wikipedia says yes.

And, hell, I'm in an end-of-the-world book club, why not add this...

I mentioned this movie five or six years ago on the blue and learned a mefite makes a cameo appearance of a sort.

I'd be up for an end-of-the-world movie club.
