After barely surviving his grievous wounds from his mission (previously on FanFare) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tyler Rake is back, and his team is ready to take on their next mission.

The whole jailbreak sequence felt like it was lifted straight from a video game - the POV, the "single take" flow, the beat-to-beat march checking off each step to the end - I could just imagine someone mashing buttons on a controller moving Tyler along.

It wasn't a bad sequel but I can't imagine this becoming a series. I'm sure star power has a lot to do with it, but I wish creative shows like Lockwood & Co would get renewed before action flix like this.

I enjoyed for the action. That single take prison escape was amazing well done.

It did feel very video game during the prison break, with "checkpoints" along the way where you get a new vehicle andweapons, and there are some hapless NPCs to get shot up before the hero takes over again.

Guess Netflix really wants their own "John Wick" style franchise.

I watched this one for Golshifteh Farahani. I hope they paid her well but she deserves better movies.

Nothing in the Extraction movies really bears thinking about too hard, but the action is surprisingly good I think. Not in a way that redeems the movie; probably not in a way that makes it worth seeing; but the punches and kicks and so forth often feel solid and real in the one on one fights, and the set pieces (like the prison yard chaos) are amusing.

Hemsworth was kind of comically reluctant to use his rifle in the prison yard scene.

Points for contriving them to get everyone out on the glass awning.

I watched this one for Golshifteh Farahani.

She really was a standout here, in both dramatic and action scenes.

I liked this a lot more than I expected to. The first one left me pretty cold but this was the right balance of light plot and broad motivations to tie the excellent action set-pieces together. I also appreciated that the bulk of the film and action scenes took place practically over a single "extraction". Definitely better than any other Netflix produced action movie I can think of recent memory.

So, maybe not a popular take - but I preferred this one over the original - which I found kind of boring.
